When it comes to the issue of marriage, some people think that for those whose marriages are working, they are just lucky. This is so far from the truth. Every good marriage has two people in it who have made up their minds to give it their best shot. Some marriages may work when only one person is determined to see it succeed but it takes its toll on the person doing the work. Honestly I don’t know if that person can keep giving forever.
There are many things that help a marriage succeed beyond a determination to make a success of it. One of of them is self control. There will always be friction and misunderstanding in every marriage , each person will irritate or annoy his or her spouse regularly. Self control will help each person put a bridle on their anger. Self control will help you know that you can’t say or do some things to your spouse just because you are angry, even if you feel justified in your anger.
This scripture says anyone who lives without restraint or can’t control his or her temper is helpless and open to external control. It means in a fit of anger, whatever evil suggestion comes to mind is acted upon without thinking. That’s super scary!! If your spouse annoys you and the thought comes ‘pick a knife and stab him’ the person just goes ahead and does it. No one should live with such a person.
Mental imbalance is not just about being raving mad. There are many mentally imbalanced people living with us. Encouraging women or men who have such spouses to be patient is actually giving them a death certificate just without the date. The person has no control when angry. Nothing that says no you can’t do this. How do you rationalize that?
For my single and searching friends please anyone who flies into a rage over matters or gets so angry you are afraid of him or her, don’t bother to go ahead and get married except you see genuine changes. Remember that after marriage we are more relaxed and express ourselves more freely to our spouses. Can you imagine such a person expressing his or her anger more freely to you?
Enough of young people being wasted by abusive spouses. Please shine your eyes. Your life is worth so much more.
